Forestry Management

Strategic land stewardship for healthier forests and reduced wildfire risk

Our Approach

Effective forestry and land management is one of the most important investments a property owner can make in the long-term health, safety, and resilience of their land. In Central Oregon’s drought-driven environment, thoughtful management reduces wildfire risk while improving forest structure, tree health, and ecosystem balance.

Much of our work focuses on wild forest lands adjacent to residential developments and the urban–wildland interface, where responsible management is critical to protecting both communities and natural resources. We also specialize in highly customized and delicate desert and historical restoration projects, where preserving native ecological character is as important as reducing risk.

Our approach is rooted in understanding how these forests historically functioned before widespread fire suppression. Ponderosa pine ecosystems evolved with frequent, low- to moderate-intensity wildfire regimes that naturally reduced competing vegetation and maintained open, resilient stands. Because fire can no longer be safely applied everywhere, our goal is to emulate the beneficial effects those historical fires once provided — selectively thinning and reducing fuels in a way that promotes long-term forest health while protecting surrounding residents and infrastructure.

Over the last century, fire suppression has significantly altered forest composition throughout Central Oregon. Species such as western juniper and bitterbrush, once uncommon within healthy ponderosa pine stands due to natural fire cycles, now aggressively encroach into these systems. This increased competition for water, light, and rooting space contributes to declining tree vigor, higher fuel loading, and greater susceptibility to mistletoe and other overcrowding-related health problems. Strategic thinning and vegetation management help restore balance, improve native tree resilience, and reduce the likelihood of extreme fire behavior that threatens both forest survival and nearby communities.

Our work typically includes selective thinning, brush reduction, and targeted vegetation management designed to restore spacing, airflow, and ecological function. Every property is different, and we work closely with landowners to develop customized plans aligned with their goals — whether focused on wildfire mitigation, native forest restoration, habitat improvement, or long-term land stewardship.
