About Us
Experience You Can Rely On
Timber Stand Improvement was founded by ISA Certified Arborist Nate Goodwin with a clear philosophy: tree and land management should be approached with discipline, technical expertise, and an uncompromising commitment to safety.
For decades, we have served residential, commercial, and institutional clients throughout Central Oregon, providing professional tree removal, structural pruning, stump grinding, and long-term vegetation management. From initial guidance to fully developed work plans, we help clients make informed decisions backed by experience rather than guesswork.
Timber Stand Improvement is widely recognized for mastery of traditional rigging and hazardous technical tree removal — the kind of work where precision, planning, and calm execution matter most. Whether a project requires crane-assisted removals or advanced traditional rigging in constrained or high-risk environments, our team brings the depth of knowledge, specialized equipment, and field-tested judgment necessary to manage risk and protect surrounding property and assets.
Our expertise extends well beyond individual trees. We provide wildfire fuels reduction, TRAQ-qualified tree risk assessments, property evaluations, forestry thinning, and prescribed burning operations designed to improve long-term safety, forest health, and resilience across larger landscapes.
Over time, our reputation has been built not on marketing claims, but on consistent results, technical competence, and the trust placed in us by homeowners, businesses, HOAs, and land managers who expect the work to be done right the first time.
Service Areas areas in central Oregon including Bend, Sunriver LA Pine, Sisters, Black Butte Ranch, Camp Sherman, Redmond, Madras, Prineville.
Equipment & Capability
- At Timber Stand Improvement, equipment is more than a list of machines — it is an extension of our commitment to safety, efficiency, and controlled execution. We maintain a modern, purpose-built fleet designed to handle projects ranging from delicate residential work to large-scale forestry and technical removals.
- Our fleet includes late-model wood chippers with capacities ranging from 12” to 20” material, allowing us to efficiently process debris while minimizing time on site. For large-scale removals and difficult access situations, our equipment is selected to support controlled dismantling and efficient material handling.
- Our knuckleboom crane, equipped with a grapple saw, provides a highly controlled method for removing hazardous or compromised trees that cannot be safely climbed. With approximately 70 feet of reach, integrated bucket access for technicians, and a 33-yard dump box, this system allows us to safely perform complex removals while reducing exposure and increasing efficiency.
- We operate multiple late-model stump grinders ranging from 24 HP to 56 HP diesel units, allowing us to tackle stumps of virtually any size or condion. When grinding is not the best solution, we also utilize excavation equipment to remove entire root systems where site plans require complete removal.
- Our fleet includes multiple tracked mini skid steers outfitted with grapples, flail mowers, buckets, and forks to support efficient cleanup, vegetation management, and work in sensitive or confined environments with minimal ground disturbance.
- A 6-ton excavator with rotating log grapple, bucket, and thumb expands our capability for root removal, log handling, forestry thinning, and land management projects requiring precision and power.
- For large-acreage vegetation management, we utilize a 57 HP tractor loader equipped with a PTO-driven 60” brush hog to efficiently reduce heavy brush and fuels across broader landscapes. This equipment supports wildfire mitigation, restoration, and forestry thinning projects where productivity and consistency matter.
- Our support fleet includes multiple equipment trailers and dump trailers, along with heavy-duty hauling trucks including two 14-foot dump bed trucks for log and material transport, one equipped with a chip box for efficient debris handling. Additional capacity includes an F550 with a 21-yard dump box, allowing us to scale efficiently to larger projects.
- In addition to tree care and land management, we offer professional sawmilling services. Whether you are looking to mill lumber from your own trees or place a standard lumber order, we can produce quality material tailored to your project needs.
